Foundations For Life

A Bible study book on the fundamentals of the Christian faith

Many people coast through life, with many ups and downs. They go through endless grief and pain. They experience instability and wonder whether it is possible to find stability and security in life. Still others find no purpose or meaning in life. They do not know where they have come from, why they are here, and where they are going. They are confused. They take some decisions believing that these decisions were good, and then soon they regret their decisions. They find themselves under the control of some enslaving powers or habits, from which they are unable to break free.

This course is written for such people.

It is here that a passage from the Bible explains it. It is the word “Foundation” it uses the illustration of a building under construction. Any building requires foundation. So also our Christian life requires a foundation. So we as Contractors must build our lives on a proper foundation as per the plan drawn by God – the Architect of our life. If the foundation is weak or improper, the building will collapse. So many a times, God the Architect, does not allow us to build any further, instead He demolishes whatever we have built.

It should be obvious to us that foundation stone involves experience and not mere theory. Jesus commanded his disciples, in Matthew 28:19-20 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you”. In His parable of Two Builders, Jesus made it plain that a sound foundation depends not on merely ‘studying’ His teachings, but practicing His teachings.

Matthew 7:24-27 “Everyone who listens to these words of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his House on the rock. The rain come down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, yet it did not fall, because it has its foundations on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down the streams rose and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash”.

Look at the triple attack on the house with the rain from above, streams from below and winds from the sides. Good foundations are built to withstand storms. The building may look nice without a good foundation, but this course is designed to settle the question of foundation for your life. It will ensure a proper initiation into God’s kingdom. If there have been any shortcoming or weaknesses in your foundation, this series of teachings will correct that.

There are 3 main sections:

  1. “Preparing for the Foundation” is like clearing the ground and digging before we build.
  2. “Laying the Foundation”
  3. “Building on this Foundation” through seven habits for effective living.
